What happens if we do not have a workplace violence prevention plan?
It is highly recommended you develop a workplace policy on violence so that your workplace is appropriately protected. For guidance please see CalOsha’s Model Written Workplace Violence Prevention Plan and New York Department of Labor's WVPP Template.
When do employees need to have completed the Workplace Violence training?
California Senate Bill 553 (CA SB 553) mandates that all employers covered under California Labor Code 6401.7 and 6401.9 establish, implement, and maintain a comprehensive Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP) by July 1, 2024. New York State's Retail Worker Safety Act (NY SB S8358A) March 4, 2025, employers with at least ten retail employees will be required to adopt the NYS model retail workplace violence prevention policy or establish their own policy that meets or exceeds the minimum requirements set forth in the state’s model.
