What is SCORM?
SCORM, which stands for Sharable Content Object Reference Model, is a set of technical standards for e-learning software products. It facilitates the interaction between e-learning content and Learning Management Systems (LMS), enabling them to share information about learners' progress and performance. SCORM ensures compatibility across different e-learning content and systems.
What Data Do We Collect?
The data we collect about each learner varies depending the client's LMS. Typically, this includes:
-SCORM ID: We refer to the unique identifier sent for each student as the "SCORM ID" within our system. Depending on the LMS, this SCORM ID could be an email address, an employee ID, or a unique identifier specific to that LMS.
-First and Last Name: Some LMSes provide the first and last names of the learners. This assists in personalizing the learning experience and managing learner records effectively.
In addition, several LMSes can be configured to send email address, as well.
Why Do We Collect This Data?
The data we collect is strictly based on the SCORM standards and what each LMS sends to us. Here’s why this data collection is essential:
1. Tracking Progress and Performance: Using SCORM standards, we can track how learners interact with the content, monitor their course progress, record scores, and assess engagement with the material. This information is critical for improving the learning experience and providing necessary support to learners.
2. Interoperability: By adhering to SCORM standards, we ensure that our content works with various LMSes. This interoperability is vital for delivering flexible learning solutions to organizations with different systems.
3. Standard Compliance: Our data collection methods are defined by SCORM specifications to ensure compliance with established e-learning standards, maintaining the quality and reliability of our educational offerings.
Where can I see information about my SCORM users?
Due to the specifications of SCORM, Emtrain begins collecting user information only at the first instance a user accesses an Emtrain content piece. Prior to this interaction, Emtrain does not receive any information about the user.
Within your user table, you can view each user that has accessed content, as well as their SCORM ID (plus first and last name, and email, as available).
Limitations of Data Collection
It is important to note that our capability to collect and utilize data is constrained by what SCORM allows and what each LMS sends. We do not control the data types chosen by the LMS. This ensures that our data collection practices align with privacy and standardization norms dictated by SCORM and the respective LMS.
Where can I find this "SCORM ID" in my LMS?
As stated above, every LMS sends a different unique ID. Remember--it will not be called SCORM ID in your LMS! The ID from some of our most used LMSes can be found below:
Workday: The unique identifier ("SCORM Id") Emtrain receives is the Person Workday ID (WID). This is a 32-character alphanumeric string and can be found on the Person record. Unfortunately, Workday does not send first and last name. Instead "Workday Learner" will appear in these fields in the Emtrain user table.
LC Vista: Look for Organization Person UUID.
